About the role

This is a permanent, full-time position, commencing at the start of Term 4.

The Library Technician works in collaboration with the Knowledge and Learning Resources Manager and the extended Library Services team to promote an energetic library environment whereby students and staff have access to a diverse range of services and resources which suit curriculum and recreational reading needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work within the Library Services team to deliver a contemporary, effective library and information service that meets the needs of stakeholders and provides excellence in customer service.
  • Promote a dynamic library environment wherein students and staff access a diverse range of services and resources
  • Utilise existing and emerging technologies to provide effective information and research services.
  • Assist staff and students in adapting to new technologies.
  • Library and textbook hire service operational tasks including but not limited to acquisitions, cataloguing, processing, shelving, circulation, overdues, weeding and stocktaking, with the focus on providing an in-demand and relevant physical and digital collections, and ensuring the provision of resources in a timely manner.
  • Undertake research utilising a variety of information sources.
  • Share a passion for literature and assist in relevant reading programs.
  • Support students in appropriate library, information and digital literacy skills.
  • Oversee student library use in the absence of a teacher, including during break times.
  • Liaise with IT Department to ensure digital technologies are ready for use at all times.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Tertiary qualification in Library and Information Science (with eligibility of Library Technician membership of ALIA), or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in a complex school or public library environment with a focus on young people鈥檚 services and programs.
  • Demonstrated skill in using a variety of software and hardware relevant to the library service and the ability to support students in library, information and digital literacy skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in physical and digital textbook delivery provisioning an advantage.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate to initiate, innovate and adapt services to meet changing requirements.
  • Strong organisational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work as an integral part of a library team and without direct supervision.
  • Recognition and understanding of the requirements regarding student protection.
